Program Description - A&T Farms Environmental Health, Safety, and Quality Technician Internship
Location:
Valley, Nebraska (A&T Farms Inc.)
Duration:
Mid-May through Mid-August (flexible based on school schedules)
Schedule:
Full-time, seasonal (40–55+ hours/week depending on season and workload)
Position Overview
The EHSQ Technician Intern supports the Environmental Health, Safety, and Quality (EHSQ) department in maintaining compliance, enforcing standards, and ensuring the production of safe, high-quality food.
This is a hands-on, operations-focused role. Interns are expected to take ownership of real responsibilities and contribute directly to daily farm operations—not observe from the sidelines.
You will work closely with leadership and play an active role in food safety, traceability, and compliance systems across the farm.
What You Will Do
Food Safety & Quality

Perform daily and weekly inspections of:

Wash/pack areas
-
Cooler storage
-
Field sanitation setups
-

Verify compliance with internal SOPs and food safety standards

Assist with product quality checks during harvest and packing
Traceability & Records
-
Maintain accurate logs and documentation for:
-
Harvest and packing activities
-
Cooler temperatures and storage conditions
-
Sanitation records
-
-
Assist with lot tracking and labeling processes using internal systems

Support compliance with FSMA traceability requirements
Operations Support
-
Work alongside harvest, warehouse, and logistics teams
-
Identify and report issues related to safety, cleanliness, or process breakdowns
-
Assist with implementing corrective actions when needed
Training & Enforcement

Help reinforce company policies including:
-
Visitor access policies
-
Hygiene and sanitation requirements
-
Support onboarding or guidance for workers related to food safety practices
-

Qualifications
Preferred:
Pursuing or recently completed a degree in:

Agricultural Systems Technology

Agronomy
-
Food Science / Food Safety
-
Agricultural Business
-
Or related field
Required:

Strong attention to detail

Willingness to work in outdoor and warehouse environments

Ability to follow and enforce procedures

Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated
Helpful but not required:

Spanish language familiarity
-
Previous farm, warehouse, or food handling experience
Work Environment
Combination of:

Outdoor field conditions (heat, dust, uneven terrain)

Warehouse and cooler environments
Fast-paced during peak harvest periods
Work is physical at times and requires being on your feet for extended periods
Compensation
Hourly pay ($19 - $21)
Program Structure
This internship is built around three principles:
1. Real Responsibility
You will own specific tasks and processes that directly impact operations.
2. Exposure to the Business
Interns will periodically spend time with leadership to understand how decisions are made across the farm.
3. Accountability & Feedback
You will receive regular, direct feedback to help you improve and succeed in the role.
